Join us in October for a weekend of art, lectures, demonstrations, and beach firing at the TAMU-CC Weil Gallery and campus.


All events are free and  open to the public.



Friday, October 4, 4-7PM

OPENING RECEPTION + ARTIST PANEL 
Making Meaning: Process + Material

Weil Gallery, Free

Artist reception and panel discussion: Come hear the artist of Oso Bay Biennial: Oh, So Ceramic! discuss how they use the clay medium as they harness process and material to create meaningful artwork.


Saturday, October 5, 12-5PM

ARTIST DEMONSTRATIONS

Bay Hall 103, Free

Join us for an afternoon of ceramic demonstrations featuring the artists of OSO BAY, Oh! So Ceramic: Emily Bayless, Misty Gamble, Leandra Urrutia, and Christy Wittmer will be demonstrating techniques that helped them make the work on display in the Weil Gallery. Don’t miss this opportunity to pick up ceramic tips and tricks to add to your clay-making arsenal. 

Demonstrations will cover Altarcitos (Bayless), Solid Building (Gamble), Ceramic Tracery (Urrutia), and Paper Clay (Wittmer).


Sunday, October 6, 8AM-5PM

BEACH FIRING

TAMU-CC Beach, Free

Whether or not you bring bisque work to participate, we welcome you to be present at the prep, pack in, pack out, and clean up portions of the pit-firing event.

WHERE: Check back for the exact location of the firing. TBD before the weekend of October 4th.

CLAY PREP: Leandra Urrutia will meet with participants at 8:30 pm on SATURDAY,
October 5th, in the CA building in the Ceramic Studio to prepare clay work for pit firing.

EVENT DAY SET-UP: Sunday, October 6th at 8 am – Meet us at TAMUCC in the
Center for Arts Building (CA) ceramic room to pack materials in vehicles. Once packed up, we will take them out to the beach and set up.

BLASTOFF TIME: Pits will be lit at 9am and will potentially fire until 5pm – The end
time is approximate and depends on how much clay work is brought to fire and how
fast the fires burn.

PACKUP TIME: When the fires burn out and all pit work is finished and cool to the
touch, we will clean and clear the pit areas. Depending on the amount of fired work
and cooling, pack-up may start as early as 1 pm or as late as 5 pm.

Pretty Moxie EXHIBITION 

Pretty Moxie is an artist collective  composed of Ashley Burnett, Mariana Ruvalcaba Cruz,  and Saffron Williams.
In their debut group exhibition, Pretty Moxie presents narrative c
eramic work paired with prints that construct narratives about their experiences of
womanhood, belonging, personal journeys, and their lives as female artists.
